Charles Silver, CEO of Algebraix Data, says that semantic- and graph-based search is disrupting the traditional marketing experience and is the direction search is headed. Silver’s perspective can be read in full in the CMSWire article, “Semantic Technology: The Future of Search for Digital Marketers.” The author explains that the semantic Web is represented using something called Resource Description Framework, a technology standard. RDF works to add contextual meaning via a web-like structure that links data elements together in a self-describing way. Silver has this to say:

Within the next few years it will likely become an essential part of the internet and a necessity in marketers’ toolboxes. Gartner identified semantic technology as a top technology trend impacting information infrastructure in 2013…In other terms, semantic technology is introducing a new phase of the Web where we stop searching and start finding.

This means that results can become more relevant by knowing and understanding the who and why behind the search query. Silver says that 85 percent of enterprise data is unstructured and many companies find it impossible to decipher. He concludes this:

Having the ability to successfully crunch this data with the help of semantic technology, along with the use of natural language processing and sentiment analysis will open up endless opportunities for marketers that were previously only dreamt about.

If you are unsure about semantic-based technologies or are looking for a better search experience, the article may be a good place to start. Semantic technology is boundless, and Silver says it is the future of search in both search and social engines.

Smartlogic understands and their enterprise-grade solution, the Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform, is semantic-based. Semaphore uniquely captures an organization’s subjects and topics into a taxonomy and augments enterprise operations, like search, content management and business workflow engines, by adding advanced semantic-based content classification, metadata enrichment, and navigation capabilities to deliver a more complete enterprise information management experience.
